In 2008 it was decided that the final closure of Tempelhof airport . Since then the area has been open to the public and used as a park or a trail for skateboarding, rollerblading , kite and so on. waiting for a final conversion project .
Only problem: the Berliners were immediately fell in love with this open space in the city center and do not want to give it up .
It has therefore come to a citizen referendum to decide what will become of this enormous area . On 25 May, the Berliners were in favor of maintaining the area ‘s disused Tempelhof airport . A setback for the major political parties that govern the city , which had plans to convert the area into residential and commercial areas .
The apartments available in the city are becoming less and demand more and more . It is expected that by 2025 the population will grow to 250,000 units in Berlin , which results in the need for 14,000 new homes each year.
For this reason, the area of the old airport , geographically so central, it seemed the perfect place to build new homes that have also contributed to moderation by the steady increase in rents. In fact, from 2005 to 2013 , according to the Institut der Deutschen Wirtschaft in Cologne , rents in the capital have risen by 25%.
According to some experts , the decision to maintain the immense area of Tempelhof as a public park , it will mean moving real estate investments in the peripheral areas of the city with the result that the apartments inside the ring will increase in value .
Never as now is the time to invest in Berlin !
